Message from Acting Head of Campus
We’re delighted to be hosting SEASAC Volleyball this year. It promises to be a fine affair, and while many of you will be old hands to the SEASAC circuit I am sure many of you will be first timers. In either case, whether you are renewing friendships and rivalries, or forging new friendships which will last across the miles and countries, we’re delighted to host you.We will all be here to compete as well as we can, and to scale new athletic heights. Hopefully, to emerge victorious, and yes, hopefully to beat the opposition. But also, as schools and individuals, we are in the business of learning; not just the perfect serve or spike - but a great deal more. Collaborating and communicating with your team, being resilient in training, thinking critically about your strategy and managing yourselves under pressure – these are all great skills that extend well beyond the sports field. Recognize them for what they are; if you develop these they will last with you long after you leave the court.
And there is also the spirit of the tournament; the principled behavior on and off court; the commitment to care for your team and the opposition; there are learning opportunities here too – I urge you to take them when they arise. Our founder, Kurt Hahn, described the goal as “Confidence in effort, modesty in success, grace in defeat”, and I hope these words stay with you over the tournament.
Let the games begin.
